Our Amazing Encounter

"Life, love and laughter-what priceless gifts to give our children."

My kids have been obsessed with dolphins ever since they heard about Winter, the most famous dolphin and I have always wanted to swim with a dolphin, it's on my bucket list so I set an AR reading goal for my kids with a trip to Discovery Cove as the prize.  I had no doubt they would achieve it!

With our paid admission we were allotted 30 minutes in the water with a dolphin.  During this time we were able to pet,
swim,

and kiss/hug the dolphin!

We were lucky to have interacted with 2 dolphins.  The first dolphin we met was Lester.  Lester is 45 years old...definitely an old dolphin.  Most dolphins only live about 20 years in the wild and about 40-60 years in captivity.  Lester is the dolphin we swam with since he is stronger than Harley, a 3 year old dolphin who is still in training.  Harley still has a few more years of training before he can do a whole 30 minute interaction by himself.

Once our 30 minutes was over we had the whole day to explore Discover Cove.  They have a reef you can snorkel which is amazing...tons of fish, stingrays, mantas and sharks.  They have a lazy river with waterfalls and lots of birds...very tropical.  Most of the time it seemed as if we were the only ones on the river.

I am very thankful that I was able to give my kids this experience and very happy to cross another item off my bucket list!
